I Thought That I Was Retiring !

Sunday 30 th November was a very special day because, at Morning Worship at Upper Studley Baptist Church I was inducted as their Pastor. My wonderful wife, Liz, and I were and are really excited at the prospect of serving God’s people in this tremendous way. Also, this came as a great surprise. This year we both
reached the venerable age of 70 years and so our thoughts had turned to retirement and becoming old disgracefully.

I have been an “itinerant” minister for some time; leading worship and preaching at various churches in the area that do not have a resident minister or where a minister takes a much needed and well-earned rest. This was the case at Upper Studley Baptist Church in May 2025. As we were leaving at the close of the service one of the Deacons approached us and asked what we were doing later in the year and would we be interested in becoming their Pastor, to succeed their Minister of some 30+ years who was retiring. Liz and I were taken completely
by surprise but, believing that this was God’s will, began the process that
culminated in my Induction Service. This was led by the West of England Baptist Association’s Ministry Team Leader and attended by the congregation and friends from local churches and was a true celebration of God’s presence with His people. And, knowing that we do His will, we are able to rejoice and be glad!

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up

Ephesians 4:11-12

As a Christian I believe that; if we are where the Lord wants us to be, when He wants us to be there, He will use us in His mission of supporting the local church and proclaiming the Gospel of Salvation to the local community. In the coming months it is my intention to reach out to the local community that surrounds the church as well as making connections with Studley Green Primary School,
Clarendon Academy and Wiltshire College, as well as being a regular presence at Upper Studley Baptist Church. So, if you are in the area, please, come along and join us, you would be very welcome!

Yours, in Christ and in His service
